Fire Ravages Distribution Truck, Destroys Goods Worth Thousands At Assin Fosu.

A Tata truck loaded with assorted goods meant for distribution has been completely destroyed by fire at Habitat, a suburb of Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

The vehicle was carrying various items, including cartons of mosquito sprays, boxes of candles, air fresheners, batteries, cartons of insecticides and other household products.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver and some sales officers had arrived in the area to deliver goods to a shop when they noticed a damaged metal part on the truck.

A welder was subsequently engaged to repair the defect.

However, during the welding process, sparks are believed to have ignited combustible materials inside the vehicle, triggering a fire that quickly spread through the truck.

Moments later, several explosions were heard from within the vehicle.

Residents rushed to the scene and made frantic efforts to contain the blaze while emergency services were alerted.

Despite their efforts, the fire intensified, reducing the vehicle and its contents to ashes.

Some of the sales personnel were seen visibly distressed as they assessed the extent of the damage.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service later arrived at the scene and succeeded in bringing the fire under control.

Speaking to reporters, the welder, who identified himself as Master Kenneth, recounted the incident and explained the unsuccessful attempts made to extinguish the fire, including the use of fire extinguishers.

He described the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by the Assin Fosu District Director, Lawrence Darkwa Monney, visited the scene to assess the extent of the destruction and ascertain the cause of the fire.

Mr. Monney used the opportunity to caution the public to exercise extreme care when handling fire and undertaking welding activities near combustible materials.
