Update!!!Illegal Chainsaw Operators Allegedly Shoot One Person At Abesewa Forest.

A suspected shooting incident involving illegal chainsaw operators has left one person seriously injured at the Abesewa Forest in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday at Abesewa and reportedly involved workers of Next Door Farms, a company said to have secured a concession from the Forestry Commission to undertake a tree-planting project as part of a reforestation initiative in the area.

According to reports, tensions escalated when some individuals believed to be illegal chainsaw operators invaded the forest and allegedly began felling trees planted by the company.

The situation is said to have turned violent, leading to the shooting of one person, who sustained severe injuries.

Speaking on the incident, the Director of Next Door Farms, Mr. Moses Oppong, explained the circumstances that led to the shooting.

He accused certain influential figures, including some top politicians within the Ahafo Ano South East area, of allegedly being linked to or enabling the activities of illegal chainsaw operators.

Mr. Oppong expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in the forest and the continuous destruction of trees planted under the reforestation programme.

He warned that such incidents threaten both environmental sustainability and the safety of workers involved in legal forestry operations.

He further appealed to the government to take urgent action by deploying military personnel to support forest guards in protecting the forest reserve from illegal activities.

End.
