Asokore Mampong Assembly Demolishes Suspected Criminal Hideout At Sabon Zongo.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly has carried out a demolition exercise at Asawase Sabon Zongo in the Ashanti Region to clear structures believed to have become a hideout for criminal activities.

According to the Municipal Coordinating Director, Isaac Kwame Elimmah, the exercise forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to improve public safety, restore law and order, and reclaim the area from illegal activities.

Armed police and military personnel were deployed to provide security throughout the operation.

The demolition comes less than a week after two people died in separate incidents linked to the area, including the alleged lynching of a 27-year-old man and the discovery of an unidentified body, raising concerns over increasing criminal activities in the community.

The exercise was led by the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, who said the Assembly had served prior notice to occupants before the operation.

Meanwhile, some affected residents said they were informed about the demolition but appealed for more time to relocate their businesses and belongings.

One charcoal seller said she was unable to secure another place to continue her business before the exercise began.

Others also appealed to the Assembly to provide an alternative location where they could relocate their containers and motorcycles to enable them to continue working and provide for their families.
