MTN MoMo Creates Thousands Of Jobs, Driving Youth Employment And National Development

The Senior Manager for Customer Experience Planning and Enablement at MTN Ghana, Dr. Lawrence Akosen, has stated that the company’s Mobile Money (MoMo) platform has created significant employment opportunities for millions of Ghanaians, particularly the youth, contributing substantially to national development.
Dr. Akosen made these remarks at a media and stakeholder engagement organised by MTN Ghana in Sunyani, as part of activities marking the company’s 30th anniversary.
Dr. Akosen noted that the MoMo ecosystem has evolved beyond a simple money transfer service into a robust platform that supports livelihoods across the country.
According to industry data, the Mobile Money value chain currently supports over 304,000 agents across Ghana, many of whom operate in underserved communities.
These agents, who are often young entrepreneurs, earn a living by facilitating deposits, withdrawals, and other financial services for their communities.
Dr. Akosen emphasised that MTN Ghana’s 30 years of service delivery has positively impacted countless lives across the country. The company has consistently invested in technology infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity, seamless transactions, and prompt customer support.
He highlighted that MTN has paid substantial taxes to the government to support national development. In 2025 alone, MTN Ghana paid GHS 8.0 billion (US$636 million) in direct and indirect taxes, including fees and levies to government agencies.
This represents a significant portion of the country’s total tax revenue, with industry estimates suggesting MTN accounts for close to six percent of Ghana’s domestic tax collection
Dr. Akosen reiterated MTN Ghana’s commitment to delivering quality services to the people of Ghana.
He noted that the company’s investment in network infrastructure, including the expansion of 4G coverage and strengthening of digital platforms, has expanded access to digital and financial services for millions of users .
The engagement in Sunyani brought together news editors, media practitioners, and representatives of the National Communications Authority from the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions.
Touching on the anniversary theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,” Dr. Akosen recognised the trust and support of customers, regulators, business partners, and community leaders over the past three decades.
