GH¢10m Unaccounted For After Demolition Of Sekyedumase Community Bank’s Aboabo Branch.
Sekyedumase Rural Bank PLC says about GH¢10 million allegedly stored in the vault of its Aboabo branch cannot currently be accounted for following the demolition of the building.
According to the bank, the structure was pulled down to make way for the government’s 24-hour economy market project before its planned relocation had been completed.
Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Afriyie Michael Kwabena, said valuable property and important documents were destroyed in the process. He added that the demolition was carried out without a formal ejection notice being served on the bank.
He, however, assured customers that their records were protected because they were backed up on the bank’s network and no customer data was lost.
Meanwhile, lawyer for the bank, Dr. Dickson Osei Assibey, disclosed that the matter is already before the court. He said despite the pending legal action, the Assembly went ahead to demolish their building.
The incident has heightened tension between the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly and Sekyedumase Community Bank PLC over the demolition of the bank’s Aboabo branch as part of plans to redevelop the market into a 24-hour economy facility.
The bank says it is pursuing legal redress to recover the alleged losses and damages caused by the exercise.
