Ashamti Police MTTD Intercepts 199 Vehicles For Unauthorized Use Of Sirens And Strobe Lights.

The Ashanti Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Department, MTTD, has intercepted 199 vehicles for unauthorized use of sirens and strobe lights.

This was disclosed by the Regional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Kwame Boadi, when he addressed the press.

The operation was carried out on the Abuakwa road, Kwadaso, Airport Roundabout, Ahodwo Roundabout, Santasi, Apire, Abrepo Junction, etc.

According to him, the operation forms part of efforts by the Police to clamp down on the illegal use of sirens and strobe lights by private and unauthorized vehicles, which poses a danger to other road users.

Superintendent Boadi confirmed that out of the total number of persons arrested, one person has already been jailed for three months, while the remaining offenders are awaiting prosecution.

He warned drivers and vehicle owners to desist from fitting their vehicles with sirens and strobe lights without authorization, stressing that the Police will continue with the enforcement exercise.

The use of unauthorized sirens and strobe lights has become a growing concern in the Ashanti Region, with many drivers abusing the devices to intimidate other road users and beat traffic.

The Ashanti MTTD says the exercise will be sustained to ensure discipline and sanity on the roads.
