Hospital Calls For Support As Woman Abandoned At St.Gregory Hospital By Family After Seeking Medical Treatment.

A woman believed to be in her early 30s has allegedly been abandoned by her family at the St. Gregory Hospital at Gomoa Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region after she was brought to the facility for medical treatment.

The woman, who is believed to be mentally challenged, has reportedly been left at the hospital for some time, with her condition becoming a growing concern for the management of the facility.

According to the Medical Superintendent of St. Gregory Hospital, Dr. Larye Yemo, the people who brought the woman to the hospital initially claimed she had been knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle.

However, investigations by the hospital allegedly revealed that the woman was intentionally dumped at the facility by the people who brought her.

Dr. Larye Yemo says management has written several letters to the Gomoa East District Social Welfare Department and the District Assembly seeking assistance, but their appeals have so far yielded no results.

He says the hospital doesn’t want to discharge the victim to the street, especially after a similar situation reportedly occurred at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital last year.

Dr. Yemo says the situation has become increasingly difficult, as the woman has allegedly been attacking other patients at the facility.

He is therefore appealing to the Gomoa East District Assembly, Social Welfare Department and other relevant authorities to urgently intervene and help find a suitable place and care for the woman.

The hospital management says it is ready to cooperate with the authorities to ensure that the woman receives the appropriate care and is not abandoned on the streets.
