Four Suspects Linked To Assin Fosu Kidnapping Incident Granted Bail.
The Assin Fosu District Court has granted bail to four persons standing trial in connection with the alleged kidnapping and torture of 30-year-old Bismark Amoh, a resident of Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The accused persons are facing six charges, including kidnapping, conspiracy to commit crime, threat of harm, causing harm, unlawful sharing of intimate images and stealing.
The first accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, 42, a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, and the second accused, Oteng Barfour, 31, an electrician, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
The third accused, Charles Doku, 53, a security guard, and the fourth accused, Kenneth Opoku Kwarteng, alias Culture, a teacher at Kumasi Girls Senior High School, were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢60,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a public officer.
The bail was granted following an application by counsel for the accused persons.
The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, adjourned the case to October 23, 2026, for further mention.
*Background of the Kidnapping*
The four accused persons were arrested following allegations that they held Bismark Amoh hostage between September 6 and 11, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the suspects subjected the victim to severe torture while demanding GH¢45,000 from his family.
The prosecution told the court that the suspects claimed the victim had defrauded the first accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, of GH¢44,800.
The prosecution is led by Chief Prosecutor ASP Wonder Lumor and Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo.
Meanwhile, the prosecution has indicated that a fifth suspect, described as a senior military officer and alleged to have orchestrated the kidnapping, is currently outside Ghana and is being pursued by the police.
The first accused, Mavis Badu Acheampong, has also reportedly lodged a separate complaint against the victim, Bismark Amoh, alleging fraud through an electronic transaction.
