Western Regional Minister Urges Citizens To Support Government, Launches ICU Fund For Takoradi Hospital

Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, has underscored the need for Ghanaians to do away with the perception that government must do everything, stressing that citizens must also support in developing the country.
Hon. Nelson explained that although it is the duty of government to bring development, the limited resources cannot reach every community at the same time.
For this reason, he said, citizens must complement government efforts.
His plea comes as the Western Region, despite hosting the mining, oil, and gas sectors, does not have a single Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in its hospitals.
This has forced critical cases to be transported to Accra or Cape Coast, with many patients dying along the way.
According to him, the situation has become dire, prompting him to solicit support from the public for the establishment of an ICU at the Takoradi Hospital.
Mr. Nelson made these remarks during a media engagement at the launch of a fund to establish an ICU at the Takoradi Hospital, which is estimated to cost three million Ghana cedis.
Medical Superintendent and Senior Cardiologist at the Takoradi Hospital, Dr. George Peprah, described the initiative as timely, noting that many lives that could have been saved have been lost because the region lacks an ICU facility.
Some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) also lauded the initiative and pledged support from their assemblies to help raise funds for the life-saving project.
