Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) Launched 2026 Breast And Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign.
The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) has launched its 2026 Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign with a call on Ghanaians to prioritize regular screening.
The campaign is on the theme: “Your Health Matters, Get Screened.”
Speaking with Angel News Reporter Van Brown, the Director of the Radiological and Medical Sciences Research Institute (RAMSRI) of GAEC, Dr. Theodosia Adom, underscored the importance of early detection in the fight against cancer.
According to her, breast and prostate cancers remain among the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in Ghana, yet many cases are reported late due to low awareness and myths surrounding the disease.
she added that Early detection saves lives. therefore they are encouraging everyone, especially women and men above 40, to go for regular screening,
She explained that GAEC, through its research and clinical facilities, continues to play a key role in cancer diagnosis and treatment using nuclear and radiation technologies.
Dr. Adom added that as part of the campaign, GAEC will embark on community outreach, public education, and screening exercises across the country to help reduce the burden of the disease.
She called for collective efforts from stakeholders, the media, and the public to help spread the message of prevention and early detection.
Speaking with Van Brown, Mr. Prince Adomako Amoah from the Ministry of Health commended GAEC for the initiative and reaffirmed government’s commitment to cancer prevention and control through education and improved access to screening.
Also, the Director of Communication at GAEC, Mr. Nana Boateng, advised that both men and women should go for regular breast and prostate screening, noting that breast cancer is not exclusive to women,
