Court Remands Truck Driver For Knocking Down And Killing 5-Year-Old Girl At Assin Fosu

The Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majeed Iliasu, has remanded into police custody a truck driver whose vehicle fatally knocked down a 5-year-old girl at Assin Fosu on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The accused, 28-year-old Abdul Karim, was the driver of a DAF cargo truck with registration number AS-5090-14.

He is facing multiple charges including overspeeding, careless and inconsiderate driving, negligently causing harm, and failure to observe road markings.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Abagna Anyongo, the tragic incident occurred around 6:40 a.m.

When the accused was driving a truck loaded with 610 pieces of lumber from Manso Kaniago in the Ashanti Region toward Accra.

Upon reaching a pedestrian crossing near the Ghana Commercial Bank area in Assin Fosu, the driver reportedly failed to slow down and struck 5-year-old Abena Amoaniamaa, who was crossing the road with her two elder sisters.

The girl died on the spot due to the severity of the injuries.

Her body was later transported to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, where she was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The body has since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation.

The court did not take the plea of the accused, as the case docket has been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for legal advice.

Abdul Karim is expected to reappear in court on Tuesday, September 17, 2025.
