Adansi Praso Farmer Jailed 30 Years For Robbery, Illegal Possession Of A Firearm
The Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court has sentenced a 32-year-old farmer, Frank Owusu, alias “Lifer”, to a total of 30 years imprisonment after he was found guilty on two separate counts of robbery and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
The presiding judge, His Honour Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey, handed down the sentence after the prosecution, led by ASP Nana George Akomeah, presented compelling evidence proving the accused committed the offence on March 28, 2025, at Assin Praso in the Central Region.
According to the facts presented in court, the complainant, Bremah Lucy, a baker and resident of Assin Praso, was asleep with her two children when the convict, armed with a locally manufactured pistol, unlawfully entered her room around 11:00 p.m.
The convict stole two mobile phones worth GH¢250 and a pair of reading glasses valued at GH¢200. He then pointed the pistol at the complainant and threatened to kill her if she did not surrender her money.
Out of fear, the complainant handed over a container with GH¢3,000 in cash. This summed up to the Gh¢3,450, the total stolen property of Bremah Lucy.
After fleeing the scene, some tenants pursued him toward Adansi Praso.
A witness confronted the accused at the Adansi School Park, retrieved the pistol and phones after a struggle, but the convict escaped with the stolen money.
The matter was reported to the police the following day, and the convict went into hiding until September 27, 2025, when he was arrested.
During police interrogation, Frank Owusu admitted to possessing the firearm and using it to commit the robbery.
The court found him guilty on both charges and sentenced him to 25 years for robbery and 5 years for possession of a firearm without lawful authority, to run consecutively.
The judge noted the rising cases of robbery in rural communities and stressed that the punishment should serve as a deterrent to others.
