STMA Set To Initiate ‘Worms To Corn’ Project To Boost Local Agriculture- MCE  

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has announced plans to roll out an innovative agricultural initiative dubbed “Worms to Corn” aimed at improving soil fertility and boosting crop yields across the metropolis.

The yet-to-be-launched programme focuses on vermicomposting, a process that uses earthworms to convert organic waste into nutrient rich compost.

The Assembly believes the initiative will offer farmers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to chemical fertilizers.

Speaking during the 41st Farmers’ Day celebration at the Bosomtwi Sam Fishing Harbour, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Lawyer F. F. Faidoo, revealed that the Assembly has finalized preparations to introduce the programme.

During this years farmers day celebration , the assembly awarded 15 famers in the metropolis.

The overall best farmer 52 years Eric Amoasi thanked the government for celebrating farmers and said land acquisitions for farming has been a challenge many youth are facing, he called on the government to intervene in acquiring land for farming because it is expensive .
