Ghanaian Security Forces Arrested 17 Heavily Armed Burkinabè Soldiers

Ghanaian security forces have arrested 17 heavily armed Burkinabè soldiers after they were found setting up combat positions with sandbags in a border community in the Upper West Region.

The soldiers were reportedly spotted near Wuru in the Sissala East District, prompting residents to alert authorities. Security agencies moved in and detained the group for questioning.

The Burkinabè troops claimed they had lost their way during a routine patrol, but the situation raised serious security concerns due to the weapons and explosives found on them.

After high-level engagement, the soldiers were later released, with diplomatic channels activated between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

The incident has reignited conversations around border security and regional safety, especially amid rising tensions in the Sahel.

End.
