Fire Guts Kasoa New Market, Over 100 Shops, Cash Destroyed

A devastating fire has swept through part of Kasoa new market in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, Central Region, destroying around 100 shops.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it took about 8 fire tenders from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) – 2 from Central Region and 6 from Greater Accra – to contain the blaze, which started at 4pm and was finally brought under control around 8pm.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II Rashid Kwame Nisawu, Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, GNFS speaking to said they received a distress call at 4:50pm and responded promptly.

He noted that the affected shops deal with various goods and that investigations will be conducted to determine the cause.
