Tema Comm 4 Kaiser Flat Residents Cry Foul Over Alleged Forced Eviction By TDC

Residents of Kaiser Flat in Tema Community 4 are protesting against what they describe as an unlawful and forceful eviction by the Tema Development Company (TDC) Ghana Ltd.

According to the residents, personnel believed to be from TDC recently inscribed notices on their buildings, directing occupants to vacate their homes within seven days.

The action, they say, has created fear and uncertainty within the community.

Addressing a press conference, the aggrieved residents insisted that they legally purchased the flats from TDC and therefore cannot be evicted without due process and proper notice.

They questioned the basis for the eviction directive, describing it as unjustified and insensitive.

The residents further recalled a similar exercise carried out by TDC about eight years ago, during which some occupants were evicted and their flats demolished under the pretext of redevelopment.

They noted that, contrary to the promise of new construction, the affected area remains undeveloped and overgrown with weeds to date.

Assemblyman for the Horticulture Electoral Area, Hon. Baba Tunde Lasisi, who oversees the community, expressed concern over the development.

He disclosed that upon making enquiries at TDC’s Estate Department, officials there denied any knowledge of the eviction notices written on the buildings.

Hon. Lasisi has therefore appealed to government to urgently intervene to halt the planned eviction and safeguard the rights and livelihoods of residents in the area.

Some residents, many of whom are pensioners, said the incident has plunged them into fear and panic, warning that they risk losing their only homes.

They maintain that they will continue to resist any eviction attempt until clarity is provided and due process is followed.

Adding his voice, Unit Committee Member for the area, Mr. Koranteng Boamah, also called on the President to step in, stressing that TDC’s actions are unfair and unjust to the residents.
