Assin Odumase: Funeral In Limbo As Family Chases Mortuary Operators Over Missing Body

The final funeral rite of Mr. George Kwame Antwi, 40 years old, was scheduled for today but unfortunately, the body couldn’t be found in the morgue.
The family, who had already completed cooking arrangements and paid for undertakers, sound systems, canopies, mattresses, accommodation, and other logistics, is now demanding compensation to cover the incurred costs.
They are also calling for the exhumation of the body to allow for the rescheduling of the funeral.
The funeral of 40-year-old George Kwame Oduro is now thrown into uncertainty after his remains were mistakenly swapped with those of a 75-year-old man and buried by another family about three months ago.
Information gathered from the family residence at Assin Fosu Odumase indicates that Mr. Antwi passed away in September 2025 and his body was deposited at the Assin Brofoyedru Mortuary for preservation ahead of his burial.
After weeks of funeral preparations, the family head, Abusuapanyin Asare Oduro, dispatched a delegation to the mortuary to retrieve the body for the final funeral rites.
However, before the team could proceed, the family received a directive to report to the Assin Fosu Police Station.
In an interview with Angel New’s Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack, Abusuapanyin Oduro said that upon arrival at the police station, they encountered staff of the Assin Brofoyedru Mortuary and members of another family who had unknowingly buried the wrong body three months earlier.
He explained that police informed them that their relative’s body had been mistakenly exchanged with that of a 75-year-old man and had already been interred.
