Fight Against Illegal Mining We Will Put Our Lives On The Line If We Have To – Abofour Royal Family.

The Abofour Royal Family in the offinso South Municipal of the Ashanti Region is sounding the alarm over attempts to engage in illegal mining (galamsey) in their area.

According to them, some Chinese nationals allegedly to have been permitted by the Offinso Paramount chief have gone to spy a large portion of land at Abofour claiming to understake galamsey on the said lands.

They fear the activities will have devastating consequences, coming on the back of existing challenges like lack of development, potable water, and proper sanitation.

The family claims most of their lands have been sold off due to the absence of a chief, leaving them vulnerable. “Abofour is not a small town, it’s large, but we lack development,” they lament.

They’re appealing to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to install a chief to help address their struggles.

Some of the Youth within the Royal family have vowed to fight against the galamsey and that of any illegal hard rock mining in the town.

“Even if they will bring soldiers, police or any security personnel to protect them to do the galamsey, we shall fight them till the last drop of our blood.” They boldly added.

On the other side, some farmers whose lands have been taken over by the alleged galamsey operators are also suffering, left without means to feed themselves.

The situation highlights the need for urgent intervention to protect the community’s interests.
