85-Year-Old Woman Burnt To Death As Fire Guts Three-Bedroom House At Pankese Awoyo.

An 85-year-old woman identified as Gladys has been burnt to death after a devastating fire swept through a three-bedroom house at Pankese Awoyo in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region* in the early hours of Thursday.

The elderly woman reportedly lived in the house with other tenants, but they had travelled outside the town to attend a funeral when the tragic incident occurred.

Residents who rushed to the scene could do little to save her as the raging fire had already engulfed the building.

The heartbreaking incident has thrown family members and the entire community into deep shock and sorrow.

According to information gathered, electricity to the house had been disconnected by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) some time ago.

Because of this, the elderly woman was said to rely on a torchlight at night, leaving residents puzzled about what could have triggered the deadly blaze.

The body has since been deposited at the morgue pending further investigations.
