Alleged Killing A Chinese-Owned Galamsey Site Sparks Tension In Amenfi West.

A young man, believed to be in his early twenties, has reportedly died following an alleged assault at a Chinese-owned galamsey site along the China Road, a suburb of Tigarikrom in Samreboi, within the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.

According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased whose identity has been withheld allegedly went to the site to steal a liquid substance locally referred to as diesel.

He was reportedly apprehended by security personnel at the Chinese-operating mining site and subsequently subjected to severe physical assault.

The Assembly Member for the Tigarikrom Electoral Area, Hon. Evans Addie, who confirmed the incident to Angel FM/TV, stated that the victim was allegedly beaten multiple times and later restrained.

The incident is said to have occurred on the night of Wednesday, April 8. Sources indicate that the victim was released the following morning after intervention by some elders. However, he was pronounced dead shortly after he was taken home.

The development has since triggered tension within Tigarikrom and nearby Zongo communities. Some youth reportedly stormed the site in protest, setting two excavators ablaze and seizing another.

Police intervention helped restore calm and prevent further escalation.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has indicated that burial arrangements will be carried out promptly in accordance with Islamic customs.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, and investigations into the incident are expected to commence.
