Termites Destroy Light Poles In Soko, Turn Community Into Dead Trap As School Struggles With Dilapidated Buildings.

Residents of Soko in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti region are living in fear after termites destroyed several electricity poles, leaving the area without lighting and turning major routes into a safety hazard at night.

The damaged poles have become weak and unstable, posing a risk of collapse.

With no streetlights functioning in the new site, the community has effectively become a “dead trap” after dark, exposing residents, especially students and traders, to potential accidents and attacks.

Adding to the community’s challenges is the poor state of the local school building.

Classrooms are in a deteriorated condition, with multiple classes forced to combine due to lack of adequate space and infrastructure.

Teachers say the situation is affecting teaching and learning, as overcrowding makes it difficult to give students the attention they need.

Residents are appealing to the Afigya Kwabre North District Assembly, the Ghana Education Service, and the Electricity Company of Ghana to intervene urgently.

They say immediate repairs to the poles and renovation of the school are needed to restore safety and improve learning conditions.

The committee chairman Nana Yaw also added that, several steps have been taken but no response, he warn that if action is delayed, both lives and the future of the children in Soko remain at risk.
