One Dead, Five Injured After Footbridge Collapse At Appeasuman In The Wassa East District.

A deteriorated footbridge linking the communities of Appeasuman, Kwaafokrom and Kaprekye in the Wassa East District of Western region has collapsed, killing a 22-year-old motor tricycle rider identified as Thomas Yeboah, Popularly known as Poppy and leaving five others seriously injured.

In an interview with the to residents of Kwaafokrom, Kaprekye, and Appeasuman, the bridge has remained in a poor condition for more than 80 years despite several appeals to the district authorities for repairs.

Community members say numerous people have suffered injuries on the bridge over the years with some victims allegedly left permanently disabled.

The residents are calling on the Member of Parliament for the Wassa East Constituency, Isaac Adjei Mensah and the District Chief Executive, Ibrahim Alhassan to urgently reconstruct the bridge to prevent further tragedies.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s parents, Nii Okhan and Auntie Ama Obosua, described the deceased, Poppy as the family’s breadwinner who had been caring for his sick father. They said his death has created a huge void in the family.

Sadly, a woman who lost her only pregnancy after she suffered a gory accident on the same footbridge and has since never been conceived again shared her ordeal with despite Media.
