Create Jobs Now”– Mfensi Assembly Member Makes Direct Call To Govt To Tackle Youth Drug Abuse.

The Assembly Member for Mfensi Electoral Area in the Atwima Nwahiagya North District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. Kofi Owusu, has made a direct call on government to urgently create more job opportunities for the youth, warning that unemployment is fueling a rise in drug abuse across the district.

Speaking during the Eid Al-Adha celebration at Mfensi, Hon. Owusu said many young people are falling into drug use because they have no meaningful work to engage them.

He said some are deceived by fake job offers that only expose them to drugs and crime.

“Due to the lack of jobs in the country, our youth are turning to drugs.

Some are told there’s a job opportunity, but when they follow up, it’s only a gateway into drug use. This is a big challenge we must address now,” he stated.

Hon. Owusu acknowledged government efforts but stressed that the scale of youth unemployment demands faster and broader action.

He pointed out that openings in the Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Education Service, and other sectors are heavily oversubscribed because opportunities are too few for the number of qualified applicants.

“Government is performing well, but there is still room for improvement.

We need more jobs created across the country so that our youth can have real options,” he said.

Marking Eid Al-Adha with the people of Mfensi, he urged young people to celebrate responsibly and avoid drugs, warning that substance abuse destroys lives and futures.

He called on the youth to focus on discipline, education, and skills development.

“Drugs destroy the life in us. As we celebrate, I call on the youth to portray a good life, desist from drugs, and be responsible citizens,” he advised.

Hon. Owusu said he will continue to push for youth-centered interventions at the district assembly level to address unemployment and its social effects in Mfensi.
