Afigya Kwabre South DCE Donates Over 350 Pieces Of Furniture To Education Directorate To End No-Desk Syndrome.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Patricia Pearl Ankrah, has taken a bold step to tackle the furniture deficit in basic schools with the donation of over 350 pieces of furniture to the District Education Directorate.

At a brief but impressive presentation ceremony held at the forecourt of the District Assembly, the DCE handed over 200 dual-desks for Junior High School pupils, 17 teachers’ tables, 19 teachers’ chairs, and 150 sets of round tables and chairs for Kindergarten pupils.

The donation, according to Hon. Ankrah, is aimed at improving the teaching and learning environment, enhancing comfort for pupils and teachers, and ultimately boosting academic performance in the district.

She revealed that this is the second batch of furniture intervention by the Assembly this year, stressing that her administration will not relent until the situation where pupils sit on the floor or lie on their bellies to write is completely eradicated from the district.

“Education is the bedrock of development and remains a top priority for this government and the Assembly.

We cannot achieve quality education if our children do not have desks to sit on and our teachers do not have decent furniture to prepare their lesson notes.

This is why we are making this intervention,” she stated.

Hon. Ankrah further called on School Management Committees, headteachers and pupils to cultivate a strong maintenance culture and take good care of the furniture to ensure it serves its intended purpose for a long time.

Receiving the items on behalf of the District Director of Education, Mr. David Akomeah Asokwah, Mr. Francis Kumanin, described the donation as timely and life-saving.

He noted that several schools in the district, especially those in deprived communities, are grappling with serious furniture challenges which affect effective teaching and learning, and that the intervention will go a long way to relieve them.

“We are extremely grateful to the DCE and the Assembly.

These desks have come at the right time. We promise to ensure that they are distributed equitably to the needy schools and we will monitor to ensure they are properly maintained,” he assured.

He, however, appealed to other benevolent organizations and individuals to emulate the shining example of the DCE to help close the remaining furniture gap in the district.
