Assuowin Residents, Nananom, Youth Groups Hold Mass Cleanup To Combat Flooding, Disease.

Assuowin, Amansie West District, Ashanti Region Residents, youth groups, Nananom and local authorities in Assuowin have joined forces for a mass cleanup exercise aimed at improving sanitation and public health in the community.

Participants cleared choked gutters, swept streets, weeded, and evacuated refuse heaps that were blocking water flow and affecting movement.
Organizers say the exercise was necessary to prevent flooding and reduce the risk of water-borne diseases as the rainy season sets in.

Speaking at the event, Madam Alice Serwaa Bonsu, District Environmental Health Officer, commended the turnout and urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit, not just during organized cleanups.

She stressed that proper waste disposal and regular desilting of drains are key to preventing cholera and malaria outbreaks.

Also addressing the gathering, Hon. Richard Kofi Achina, Assembly Member for Assuowin, appealed to the District Assembly to provide more refuse containers and ensure regular waste collection to sustain the gains of the exercise.

Abusuapanin Akwasi Owusu, who represented the Assuowin chief, said the cleanup has brought relief, but called for sustained support from the District Assembly.
