Denyase Residents Appeal For Help As Broken Water Pipes Leave Community Struggling For 5 Years*

Residents of Denyase in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region have appealed to authorities to come to their aid and fix the community’s damaged water pipes, which have been out of service for over five years.
According to residents, the community once relied on two communal pipes, but both have broken down and remain unrepaired, leaving households without direct access to public water.
Without functioning pipes, residents say they are forced to depend on neighbors who have boreholes drilled in their homes, often walking long distances and waiting hours to fetch water for cooking, drinking, and household use.
The situation has placed a heavy burden on women and children who bear most of the responsibility for collecting water, especially during peak hours when queues are long.
Residents stressed that water is essential and that a community of Denyase’s size should have at least four functional pipe systems, yet currently has none.
They say the prolonged shortage has affected hygiene, small-scale trading, and overall productivity, with many families forced to cut back on basic activities due to the scarcity.
The community also raised concerns about sanitation, revealing that the place for convenience is not healthy it the olden wooden structure in this current world still use old-fashioned toilet facilities constructed with wood.
Combined with the lack of clean water, they warn that the conditions expose residents to preventable diseases and undermine efforts to improve public health in the area.
Residents are urging the Bekwai Municipal Assembly and relevant agencies to intervene urgently to restore the water supply, expand access points, and address the sanitation challenges, saying timely action is needed to restore dignity and improve living conditions in Denyase.
