Effiduase Residents Demand Sanctions After Caterpillar Damages Asphaltic Road.

Residents of Effiduase in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region have expressed anger and concern after a road construction caterpillar was spotted damaging sections of a newly constructed asphaltic road, raising serious questions about the quality and supervision of ongoing road works in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the heavy-duty caterpillar, which should have been transported on a lowbed truck to prevent damage to the bitumen surface, was instead driven directly on the asphalt road.
The weight of the machine has since left deep cracks and visible damage on portions of the road.
“Why should a caterpillar be allowed to drive on a new asphalt road? It is destroying what they just constructed.
This is not right. The contractor must be held responsible.”
Residents say they are worried that the damage will compromise the durability of the road, leading to early deterioration despite huge sums of public funds invested in the project.
They are calling for the immediate arrest and sanctioning of the contractor, stressing that intentionally damaging an asphalt road is an offense under Ghana’s road regulations.
“They are wasting our money. How can you spend millions to construct a road and then use the same machines to destroy it?
The Assembly must arrest the contractor, This is unacceptable.”
The residents are therefore appealing to the Sekyere East District Assembly, the Department of Urban Roads, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways to intervene.
