Mosquito Infestation And Refuse Overflow At Sofoline Spark Health Fears Among Traders.

Traders and residents who operate at Sofoline in the Ashanti Region have expressed frustration over the increasing accumulation of refuse at the Sofoline station, describing the situation as a serious health hazard.
According to the traders, the station, which serves as a major transport hub in the heart of Kumasi, has been overwhelmed by heaps of uncollected waste, creating an unpleasant and unsafe environment for thousands who use the area daily.
Commuters complained that the stench from the refuse makes it difficult to wait comfortably for vehicles, while the site has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests.
“Mosquitoes are everywhere, biting us day and night. We are suffering here,” one trader lamented.
They are therefore appealing to the Kwadaso Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Eric Assebey, and other relevant authorities to take immediate action to clear the waste and improve sanitation at the station.
The traders further claimed that the refuse has remained at the site for the past two weeks without being collected, worsening conditions for both sellers and passengers.
Meanwhile, the caretaker of the refuse site, Madam Josephine Amoah, popularly known as Obaa Fresh, confirmed that the waste has been there for the past two weeks.
She noted that the persistent accumulation of refuse has become a daily problem, producing a strong odor and creating discomfort for passengers and traders alike.
Madam Josephine Amoah added that several complaints have been made to the authorities but little has changed.
She stressed that the situation requires urgent attention to prevent a potential outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.
