Stop Building On Waterways — Gomoa Central DCE Warns.

The District Chief Executive for Gomoa Central, Hon. Hackman Kwabina Aidoo, has issued a strong warning against the sale and development of lands situated along waterways and Ramsar sites within the district.

Speaking to Angel TV reporter Nana Kojo Asare during the first phase of the National Sanitation Exercise held at Gomoa Jukwa, the DCE expressed concern over the increasing encroachment on water channels, which he said contributes significantly to flooding in many communities.

Hon. Aidoo cautioned individuals and traditional authorities involved in the sale of such lands to immediately stop the practice, stressing that the Assembly would enforce measures aimed at restoring affected waterways and preventing future flood disasters.

He further outlined plans by the Gomoa Central District Assembly to improve drainage systems and ensure that water channels are kept free from obstruction as part of efforts to address flooding in the district.

Meanwhile, the District Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) also called for the demolition of structures erected on waterways, insisting that all illegal buildings blocking watercourses must be removed to allow the free flow of water and reduce the risk of flooding.

The sanitation exercise formed part of the government’s renewed efforts to promote environmental cleanliness.

End.
