Tension High As NPP Grassroots Demand Resolution Amid Constituency Election Crisis In Assin South.

Tension is mounting in the Assin South Constituency of the Central Region after the Assin Fosu High Court suspended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency executive elections that were scheduled to take place today, Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The court granted a 10-day interlocutory injunction, forcing the much-anticipated election to be put on hold amid growing internal disagreements within the constituency.

Speaking to the media, NPP Election Officer for the Nyankumasi Ahenkuro Electoral Area, David Kwabena Marfo, explained that after the nomination process for the constituency elections, some party members observed what they described as actions that were inconsistent with the party’s constitution, regulations and guidelines. As a result, they petitioned the court, leading to the injunction.

According to him, the party had completed all preparations for the election, with delegates already mobilised and ready to vote this morning.

However, they were informed at the venue that the court had issued an injunction, making it impossible for the Electoral Commission and the security agencies to provide the required supervision and security for the exercise.

Mr. Marfo further accused the party’s First National Vice Chairman, Smith Danquah, popularly known as “Buttey”, of allegedly creating confusion within the Assin South NPP to serve what he described as his parochial interests.

He therefore appealed to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the Steering Committee and the General Secretary to intervene immediately to ensure justice, fairness and the preservation of unity within the party.

Some delegates, who appeared visibly disappointed by the development, also expressed their frustration over the suspension of the election.

They appealed to the party’s national leadership to resolve the impasse quickly and protect the Assin South parliamentary seat, describing it as the NPP’s only parliamentary seat in the area.
