MP Challenges Effia Assembly to Justify Excess Expenditure Beyond Approved Budget.

The Member of Parliament for Effia Constituency, Hon. Isaac Boamah Nyarko, has challenged the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly to provide justification for expenditures that have gone beyond approved budget estimates for the 2026 financial year.
Speaking at the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly’s General Assembly meeting, the MP expressed concern over what he described as excessive spending recorded in some areas of the Assembly’s composite budget between January and May 2026.
According to Hon. Boamah, his review of the budget revealed that some expenditures had exceeded approved allocations, with certain areas recording overruns of up to 600 percent within the first five months of the year.
He questioned the processes that led to such spending and called for a thorough review to ensure that public resources are managed responsibly.
However, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effia Kwesimintsim, Hon. Abdul Majeed Dokurgu, has rejected the concerns raised by the MP, insisting that the Assembly has not exceeded any approved budget.
According to the MCE, the Assembly is operating within its approved financial framework and has adhered to all relevant guidelines governing local government expenditure.
He explained that the Assembly operates with a balanced budget and that governance is a continuous process, where unfulfilled expectations due to revenue challenges are carried forward into subsequent years.
Hon. Abdul Majeed Dokurgu again explained that the Assembly is also implementing measures to improve its Internally Generated Fund (IGF), which remains a major source of revenue.
