Traditional Authorities And Youth Of Tontokrom Petition Media Commission Over Erastus Asare Donkor.
Traditional Authorities and Youth of Tontokrom in the Amansie South District have petitioned the National Media Commission to stop Mr Erastus Asare Donkor, a seasoned journalist who has branded himself as an anti-galamsey crusader, from tarnishing the image of the community.
It would be recalled that Mr Donkor, at the beginning of this week, posted a statement on his Facebook wall which said: _”Manso Tontokrom is the only town where galamsey has taken seed.
Even soldiers are afraid of enforcing environmental laws in that town, galamsey is done glaringly.”_
According to the aggrieved youth, Mr Donkor has, in several publications, dragged stories and incidents that happened outside the community and in other regions, not even in the Ashanti Region, to credit Tontokrom, just to paint them as a lawless community to Ghanaians.
Speaking to newsmen during a press conference, the aggrieved youth warned him to stop his negative agenda towards the community, else they will expose him.
Opanin Kofi Manu, Abusuapanin for Tontokrom, speaking on behalf of the Traditional Authorities, urged journalists to check the truth behind every story before publishing, because such an attitude can cause mayhem in the country.
After the press conference, a Unit Committee member, Haruna Iddrisu, popularly known as Tontokrom DC, led a section of the aggrieved youth to slaughter a sheep and chicken with eggs to curse Erastus Asare Donkor and those with bad motives to destroy the image of the community in the name of making money out of it.
