Fire Destroy 50 Wooden Structures And Homes in Nima-Moke, Ashanti Region

A fire outbreak has displaced dozens of residents in Nima-Moke, a slum in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The fire, which began around 4:30 p.m., destroyed over 50 wooden structures that served as homes for the residents.

The blaze spread quickly due to the presence of flammable materials in the area, which is home to migrants from northern Ghana seeking better opportunities in the south.

Most of the affected residents were away at the market or their workplaces when the fire broke out, leaving them unable to save their belongings. Families, including children, are now homeless and unsure of where to find shelter.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started in one of the structures and spread rapidly, exacerbated by delays in contacting the Ghana National Fire Service.

This marks yet another tragedy for the slum, which experienced a similar fire in 2020 that displaced many residents and destroyed valuable possessions.
