Drivers On Nkawie–Mpatuam Route Plead For Urgent Road Repairs Over Safety And Economic Hardship.

Drivers operating on the Nkawie–Seidi–Kobeng–Amanchia–Mpatuam route have appealed to the government to urgently repair the deteriorating road, describing it as deplorable and dangerous.

The stretch, which cuts across Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality and Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region, has become a major challenge for commuters, traders, and residents.

Speaking for the group, the drivers said the poor state of the road has worsened travel conditions, increased vehicle maintenance costs, and slowed economic activity in the communities along the route. Journeys that should take minutes now stretch into hours, they noted.

The drivers also raised concerns over rising insecurity. They said armed robbers are exploiting the bad portions of the road to attack stranded vehicles and passengers.

According to the drivers when their vehicles get stuck or slow down on the bad spots, armed robbers attack us,” one driver stated.

They are calling on the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the local assemblies to prioritize the road for construction.

According to them, fixing the route will improve safety and ease transportation for traders, students, and residents who use it daily.

Residents in the area have also voiced concern that the road’s condition is hampering farming, trade, and access to health services.

The appeal adds to growing calls for faster action on rural road infrastructure across the Ashanti Region.
