Kwaku Nyumah Residents Cry Over Death Trap Bridge

Residents of Kwaku Nyumah, a farming community in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region, have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the Tano Bridge, which they describe as a “death trap.”
According to the Community Secretary, Mr. Kantor Samuel, the Tano Bridge serves as a vital link between Kwaku Nyumah and Norbekaw, where residents access essential services such as markets, healthcare and schools.
He lamented that for years, the bridge has posed a significant danger to commuters, especially during the rainy season when it overflows and becomes impassable.
Some residents expressed their frustrations, stating that their farm produce often goes to waste as they are unable to transport it to market due to the poor state of the bridge. “We are suffering.
When it rains, we can’t cross, and our food rots,” one resident said.
In response, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asutifi South, Hon. Asabre Donkor Benjamin, acknowledged the community’s concerns but noted that the assembly lacks the capacity to undertake such a major infrastructure project.
He, however, assured the residents that he would continue to remind the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, to take action to address the situation.
