Two Drivers Caught With 680 Packs Of Suspected Weed In Volta North

The Volta North Regional Police Command has arrested two drivers, Akyereme George, 43, and Benjamin Akpado, 23, for allegedly transporting dried substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.

The arrest was made on Thursday, January 29, when the drivers were intercepted while driving vehicles with registration numbers GE-8254-13 and AW-4321-14, respectively, heading towards Kpando.

According to police reports, the drivers attempted to evade arrest by speeding into nearby bushes upon sighting a patrol team, but were apprehended after a chase.

A search of the vehicles revealed 20 sacks containing about 680 pieces of dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The police are continuing their efforts to arrest the owners of the substances, and have assured the public of their commitment to fighting drug trafficking in the region.
