Tema West Youth Receive Start-up Tools Under National Apprenticeship Program.

More than 45 young people in the Tema West Municipality have received start-up equipment to begin their vocational training under the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme.

The beneficiaries will undergo training in dressmaking, hairdressing, welding, auto mechanics and other skilled trades, as part of efforts to equip them with employable and entrepreneurial skills.

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the National Apprenticeship Programme, Jones Klutse, described the initiative as one of government’s flagship interventions aimed at tackling youth unemployment.

He stressed that the programme goes beyond training, providing beneficiaries with the tools needed to establish their own businesses.

He added that strict monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the equipment is used for its intended purpose and urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity to become self-reliant.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Tema West Municipality, Ludwig Teye Totimeh, underscored the importance of maintaining the equipment and encouraged the beneficiaries to serve as role models within their communities.

Member of Parliament for Tema West, James Enu, indicated that the distribution marks the first phase of the programme in the constituency, with a second phase expected soon.

He further disclosed plans to extend support to artisan associations that are not currently captured under the programme.
