PARLIAMENTARY SELECT COMMITTEE ON ENERGY URGES INDIVIDUALS WITHIN NORTHERN SECTOR TO STOP CUTTING POWER TRANSMISSION LINES*‎ ‎

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy is appealing to some individuals residing in the Northern Sector of Ghana who have vowed to burden the authorities of the Volta River Authority (VRA) by cutting and stealing transmission lines.

‎According to the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, it is criminal for some individuals to engage in such acts, as VRA has invested heavily in installing the transmission lines to supply power to the people in the Northern Sector.

‎He was shocked and emphasised that it is extremely wrong for someone to cut power lines for personal gain, such as selling the metal to aluminium or scrap dealers.

‎He also indicated that in May, the Solar Panel project in the Northern Sector will be ready for commissioning, and that during the next quarter, in July, the committee plans to visit the Northern Sector to inspect the solar panel.

‎The Member of Parliament for Ho West, who also serves as the chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, urged vigilante groups and residents in the Northern Sector to arrest anyone damaging private or public property, including VRA lines, and to report such cases.

‎He stressed that VRA has to spend additional money to repair and replace damaged lines, despite having increased power from solar transmission, as they lack sufficient lines for effective transmission.

The chairman made this known to the media during a *familiarisation visit to the Volta River Authority at Aboadze* in the Shama Municipality of the Western Region.

End.
