Lack Of Social Amenities Behwe Residents Cry Out For Help.

Residents of Behwe in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region have made a desperate appeal to the government through the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Sarah Amoakoaa, calling for urgent intervention to address a severe lack of basic social amenities.
The farming community says it has been left behind despite producing a significant portion of the food consumed in the area.
With the population steadily growing, pressure on the few existing facilities has become unbearable.
The most pressing challenge, residents say, is access to clean water.
Behwe currently depends on a single borehole, and when it breaks down, the entire community is cut off from potable water.
“When the only source breaks down, we have nowhere to turn.
We are forced to drink unsafe water or walk long distances,” a resident explained.
Sanitation is another major concern, the absence of public toilet facilities has forced many residents to resort to open defecation in nearby bushes.
Community members in an interview with Atinka News reporter, Sofoba Kwame Afrifah, said the practice is causing frequent cases of diarrhea, skin infections, and other waterborne diseases, especially among children.
“We are suffering. Our women and children are the most affected.
This is not healthy, and it’s affecting school attendance and farm work,” another resident noted.
Residents emphasized that Behwe is not a new settlement but a growing community that contributes to food security in Asante Akyem North.
They argue that the lack of water, toilets, and other infrastructure undermines their health, productivity, and dignity.
They are urging the District Assembly and central government to, as a matter of urgency, provide additional boreholes, construct public toilet facilities, and extend other basic amenities to support the expanding population.
End.
