‘The Stench Is Killing Our Business’ — Suame Market Women Beg Assembly to Relocate Filthy Refuse Container.

Traders, mostly women, at the Suame Market in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region are up in arms over poor sanitation conditions that they say are collapsing their businesses.

The traders complain that a refuse container placed right in the middle of the market has been left unattended for weeks, overflowing with waste and producing an unbearable stench.

“The bad smell from the bin is affecting us badly. We can’t even eat the food we bring to the market. Customers take one look and walk away,” a tomato seller told Sompa News.

According to the women, the situation worsens whenever it rains. Dirty, foul-smelling water seeps from the container and floods parts of the market, making the entire area muddy and slippery.

“When it rains, the liquid from the dustbin flows through our shops. The market becomes muddy and nobody wants to come here. We lose our capital each time,” another trader lamented.

The women say the market becomes unattractive and unsafe to trade in during rainy days, forcing many to stay home and count their losses.

They are therefore appealing to the Suame Municipal Assembly to act urgently.

Their key demands: relocate the refuse bin to the far end of the market and spread gravel on the grounds to prevent mud during rains.

“We are begging authorities to take the bin away from the middle of the market.

It is killing our business. And they should put gravel here so we can trade even when it rains,” the traders pleaded.

The market women warn that if nothing is done immediately, many will be forced out of business due to continuous losses and health risks from the filth.
