Three-Year-Old Electrocuted By Fallen ECG Cable At Nhyiaeso.

A three-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after being electrocuted by a fallen electricity cable at Nhyiaeso in the Obuasi Municipality.

According to the boy’s mother, Adwoa, she had left home early in the morning to sell drinks at a nearby galamsey site, leaving her son at home. Unknown to her, the child allegedly followed her in search of his mother.

In the process, he reportedly stepped on a live electricity cable that had fallen to the ground and was electrocuted.

Residents who witnessed the incident quickly rushed the child to the Obuasi Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The father of the deceased, Ernest Appiah, emotionally recounted how he nearly lost his life while attempting to rescue his son.

“I rushed to save my son when I saw him lying on the cable, but people around advised me to stay back to avoid being electrocuted as well,” he said.

“My son was eventually pulled away from the cable with a wooden stick, but by then it was too late,” he added.

Residents have blamed the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the unfortunate incident, alleging that they had reported the fallen cable several times over a three-day period but no action was taken.

A resident, identified as Lampard, said, “We informed ECG several times after the cable fell, but nothing was done. If they had responded promptly, this tragedy could have been avoided.”

The incident has left residents in shock and renewed calls for ECG to respond swiftly to reports of faulty electrical installations to prevent similar tragedies.
