Taxi Submerged As Floodwaters Engulf Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway, Leaving Travellers And Drivers Stranded In Heavy Traffic.

A torrential downpour has caused widespread flooding in Moree in the Central Region, leaving motorists and commuters stranded in heavy traffic along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

In the midst of the flooding, a taxi carrying two occupants, including the driver, was swept away by strong currents.

However, residents in the area managed to rescue both individuals, while the vehicle was left completely submerged.

The traffic congestion stretched from the Yamoransa Junction to Aggrey Memorial SHS, with scores of passengers abandoning their vehicles and wading through the floodwaters to continue their journeys.

Many of the affected passengers said they preferred walking to remaining in stationary vehicles, as they could not tell when the floodwaters would recede.

Some stranded passengers told Rich FM News that they had been trapped in traffic for more than four hours, as vehicles were unable to navigate sections of the inundated highway.

Residents who spoke to Rich FM News said the rains began in the morning and had persisted for more than five hours.

They expressed fears that the situation could worsen and result in more devastating flooding if the downpour continued.

Several residents also called on the relevant authorities to urgently address the perennial flooding problem by improving drainage systems in the area to prevent future occurrences that continue to disrupt movement and endanger lives.
