DCE Denies Bias Claims Over Allocation Of New Market Stores.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Hon. Isaac Yawson has strongly denied allegations of political favouritism in the distribution of newly constructed market stores in Twifo Praso.

The denial follows protests from a section of local traders who accused the local assembly of bias.

The aggrieved traders claimed that the newly built stores were handed over exclusively to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), completely sidelining the original shop owners who occupied the site prior to its demolition and reconstruction.

Speaking on the matter, Hon. Isaac Yawson clarified that the allocation process was entirely transparent, competitive, and free from political interference.

According to the DCE, the assembly was forced to start the allocation process from scratch due to a lack of documentation from the previous administration.

To rectify this, the assembly issued a public announcement inviting all interested traders in the district to submit formal applications for the shops.

The call for applications highlighted a massive deficit in available commercial space.

While 200 traders applied for the shops, the newly constructed market layout could only accommodate 40 stores.

Faced with overwhelming demand, the assembly instituted a strict interview panel to vet the applicants.

The DCE emphasized that the final selection was based purely on merit, commercial viability, and the applicants’ ability to properly maintain the public property.

The assembly has urged the public and local trader associations to disregard the rumours, maintaining that the selection process was fair, lawful, and aimed solely at boosting the local economy of Twifo Praso.

End.
