Anomaba Youth Block Road After Tipper Truck Crash With Youth, Demand Urgent Repairs.

The normally quiet community of Anomaba in the Mfantseman municipality has erupted in protest, with youth blocking the primary road linking to their local sand winning site following a serious crash involving several tipper trucks.

This drastic action is a direct response to years of unaddressed complaints about the deplorable state of their only access road, which has been rendered impassable by the constant heavy traffic, severely impacting residents’ ability to transport agricultural produce to market.

Local residents, speaking anonymously, have expressed deep frustration, stating that their pleas to government authorities for road repairs have been consistently ignored.

“We have been complaining for years,” one elder lamented, “but nothing has been done. Our road is destroyed, and we cannot even take our food to sell in town.

We are calling on the government to intervene immediately, because if this continues, the situation will only get worse.”

The crash involving the tipper trucks, which are integral to the local sand winning operations, served as the immediate trigger for the blockade.

The youth have made it clear that the road will remain impassable until concrete steps are taken to rehabilitate the road infrastructure.

This incident is a stark reminder of the persistent issues surrounding heavy vehicle operations and road maintenance in the Central Region.

The constant passage of large, overloaded tipper trucks has not only caused significant damage to the road network but also poses a serious safety hazard to residents.

The community’s livelihood is directly tied to their ability to access markets, and the current road conditions have created an economic crisis for many families.

The youth’s protest highlights the growing desperation in communities bearing the brunt of unregulated extractive activities without corresponding infrastructural development.

They are appealing for swift government action to prevent further economic hardship and potential escalation of the situation.
