Chief Threatens To Block Landfill Site Over Unpaid Compensation.

The Chief of Nkanfoa community in Cape Coast North, Nana Anaafo IX, has threatened to block access to the landfill site over unpaid compensation for the land.

According to the Chief, in a few days the entire Nkanfoa community will protest, block the road, and demonstrate to prevent refuse trucks from dumping at the landfill site.

He explained that per the contract signed by his ancestors and the government, an agreement was reached to release the land for a recycling plant, which was never built and was later used as a landfill site.

“I’m sending a caution to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA) that in a few days, the road access to the dumping site will be closed. We are demanding compensation for the land,” Chief said.

Meanwhile, the Nkanfoa landfill site is the official final disposal site for the Cape Coast Metropolis, and it is managed by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly (CCMA).

Nana said they feel their concerns are not factored into decision-making, leading to a lack of trust between them and the Assembly.

He appealed to the Minister for Local Government,Hon. Mahama Ayariga to intervene.
