Traditional Leader Raises Concerns Over Growing Abuse Of Social Media.

The Chief of Gomoa Otapiro in the Central Region, Nana Osompa Nyamekye, has called on the government to introduce policies aimed at curbing the misuse of the internet and social media, citing the growing level of indiscipline online.

According to the traditional leader, the increasing abuse of social media, especially by the youth, has become a major concern and requires urgent government intervention through appropriate regulations and public education.

Speaking to the media during the graduation ceremony of 290 pupils of Young Executive and Onua Francis International School, Nana Osompa Nyamekye lamented that many students are using the internet for inappropriate activities instead of taking advantage of it for learning and academic research.

He stressed that while the internet is a valuable educational tool, its misuse is contributing to moral decline among the youth, making it necessary to implement policies that promote responsible and positive online behaviour.

Meanwhile, the Gyaasehene of Gomoa Wassa and Director of Young Executive and Onua Francis International School, Nana Kwesi Essel Okyeahene I, also expressed concern over the increasing insults, abusive language, and indiscipline on social media.

He urged young people to use the internet responsibly and for productive purposes such as education, innovation, and skills development, while calling on the government to introduce measures that will help reduce the abuse of online platforms.
