Unemployed Man Remanded For Robbery At Assin Fosu.
A 23-year-old unemployed man, Emmanuel Amoah, has been remanded into custody by the Assin Foso DistrictAssin Court after being arraigned on a robbery charge in connection with the alleged attack and robbery of an okada rider at Assin Essan in the Central Region.
The accused, who resides at Assin Siecheam, appeared before His Worship Abdul Majid Illiasu, with Inspector Matilda Osaah Buabeng leading the prosecution.
Presenting the facts,hired the prosecutor told the court that on May 21, 2026, the complainant, Isaac Essuman, an okada rider based at Assin Foso, was hired by the accused at the Assin Foso New Station for a trip to Assin Siecheam. The two allegedly agreed on a fare of GH¢200 before embarking on the journey.
The prosecution alleged that upon reaching a section of the road at Assin Essan, Amoah attacked the rider by throwing powdered pepper into his eyes before stabbing him in the right hand with a pair of scissors to prevent him from resisting.
The court heard that the accused allegedly bolted with the complainant’s black Haojin motorcycle, bearing registration number M-26-CR 2546, valued at GH¢15,000. He is also accused ofTecno stealing a brown waist bag containing a Tecno Spark 20 mobile phone valued at GH¢2,000, a Tecno Spark 7P valued at GH¢1,300, a National Health Insurance Card, Ghana Card, rider’s licence, and an unspecified amount of cash.
Following the incident, the complainant reported the matter to the police and was issued with a medical report form to seek treatment and obtain a medical report.
The prosecution further told the court that on July 22, 2026, the complainant received information that an individual had taken a newly acquired motorcycle to Assin Pra Agave in the Assin North District in search of someone to operate it as an okada.
Acting on the tip-off, the complainant, together with some friends, proceeded to the community.
Investigators said one of the complainant’s friends led them to the suspect’s residence, where Amoah allegedly attempted to flee upon seeing the complainant but was arrested and handed over to the police.
During police investigations, Amoah denied the allegations in his caution statement. However, the court did not take his plea.
He has been charged with robbery, contrary to Section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
After hearing the prosecution, His Worship Abdul Majid Illiasu remanded the accused into custody for one month to enable the police to continue investigations.
The case has been adjourned to August 21, 2026, when Amoah is expected to reappear before the court.
