CDAG Warns Drives Against Charging Unapproved Fares.

he Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (CDAG), together with our sister driver associations, wish to caution all commercial drivers against charging passengers unapproved fares.

We have received information that some drivers have started charging fares above the existing approved rates, despite our decision to put the proposed fare increment on hold following the government’s intervention on fuel prices.

We earlier notified the general public of our intention to increase transport fares due to the persistent rise in fuel prices and its impact on the operations of commercial drivers.

However, following the government’s intervention to reduce fuel prices by GH¢2 and its commitment to work towards stabilising fuel prices within a one-month period, we have decided to suspend the proposed fare increment and give the government the one-month grace period to implement measures to address the situation.

We therefore call on all drivers to desist from charging unapproved fares and continue to adhere to the existing approved transport fares until further notice.

We have also been informed that National Security operatives have been assigned to monitor the situation and ensure that passengers are not cheated through the charging of unauthorised fares.

We urge all drivers to cooperate with the authorities and adhere strictly to the directive,we understand and appreciate the economic difficulties confronting commercial drivers, particularly the rising cost of fuel,vehicle maintenance and other operational expenses.

However, any adjustment in transport fares must be done through proper consultation and agreement with the relevant stakeholders.

We remain committed to protecting the interests and welfare of commercial drivers while also ensuring fairness to the travelling public.

We therefore appeal to all drivers to exercise patience and allow the government the agreed one-month period to work on stabilising fuel prices.

Any further decision on transport fares will be communicated to the general public through the appropriate channels after the expiration of the agreed period and further consultations with relevant stakeholders.
