Ahafo Ano North MOFA, CABI International Educate Farmers on Safe Pesticide Use.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region, in collaboration with CABI International, has educated vegetable farmers on the proper use of pesticides, insecticides and weedicides to ensure food safety and protect consumers from health-related risks.
The training, which targeted farmers from seven selected communities within the municipality, focused on the safe and appropriate application of agrochemicals in vegetable production.
Speaking at the programme, the Municipal Agric Officer in charge of Extension, Mr. Victor Akogo, explained the importance of using approved pesticides and following the recommended application methods when producing vegetables.
He advised farmers to desist from using unapproved pesticides and insecticides on their crops, stressing that the misuse or inappropriate application of agrochemicals could pose serious health risks to consumers and negatively affect the environment.
Mr. Akogo encouraged farmers to always seek advice from agricultural extension officers before purchasing or applying agrochemicals on their farms.
He further assured the farmers that the Department of Agriculture would continue to educate and support them with the necessary knowledge to improve their farming practices and produce safe and quality vegetables for the market.
Some of the beneficiary farmers expressed their appreciation to CABI International and MOFA for organising the training.
They said the education had given them valuable knowledge about the proper use of pesticides and would help them improve the safety and quality of the vegetables they produce.
The farmers appealed for more of such training programmes to reach other farmers across the municipality.
End.
