Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe Transforms Education In Amenfi Central With Teacher Support Initiative And Infrastructure Donations.
The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, is making significant strides in improving education and teacher welfare across the constituency through her flagship “Joana Gyan Cudjoe Teacher Initiative” and direct infrastructure support.
In one of her major interventions, the MP has employed 35 community teachers to support 28 basic schools across rural communities in Amenfi Central.
The initiative, which began as a pilot at Manukrom in 2013, was expanded to address the challenge of teacher absenteeism and rejection of postings in underserved areas due to lack of social amenities.
Each community teacher now earns between GHS 800 and GHS 1,000 monthly, with salaries fully covered by the MP to ease the financial burden on parents who previously contributed to their pay. Schools benefiting include Agyedum, Obeng, Chichiso No.1 & No.2, Antobam, Nyamebekyere, Agona Camp, Juabo, Anhiafutu, and Manukrom among others.
Beyond direct employment, Hon. Cudjoe’s Teacher Initiative has provided financial support to 39 schools with a total enrollment of 8,829 pupils and 137 teachers.
Between GH¢8,400 and GH¢22,400 was allocated to each school over a 7-month period, totaling GH¢589,680.
The monthly allocation of GH¢84,240 is aimed at motivating teachers and promoting quality education in the district.
“Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s efforts have been commendable, and her commitment to education is expected to have a lasting impact on the community,” a statement from her office noted.
The MP has also made surprise visits to schools with cash donations and pledges for expansions to boost staff morale.
Her support extends to infrastructure. In March 2026, she donated 50 bags of cement to the Agona Camp Islamic School to help complete an ongoing classroom project and improve teaching and learning conditions.
Representatives noted that the donation forms part of her broader agenda to ensure children in Amenfi Central learn in a conducive environment.
Hon. Cudjoe says the interventions seek to address teacher shortages, reduce financial pressure on parents, and improve learning outcomes.
She has pledged to sustain the community teacher salary support annually at an estimated cost of GH¢269,280, with payments made every four months.
Education stakeholders in Amenfi Central say the initiatives are already bridging gaps in rural schools and providing young graduates with employment opportunities while strengthening the foundation for future leaders.
